chapter 1

Von Thresh frowned at the bus window. Third grade sucks she thought. Only thing it gives you is nolege for when I grow up. Von's dream was to be a teacher and teach grade three and four. For Von the worst part of school was recess. All the other kids run and play and she sits in the corner alone. she was afraid if it happened in grade 4 it would be humiliating because she was afraid all the other younger kids would stare at her and think "I sure don't want to end up like her."
As the bus jerked to a stop she shoved her backpack on her back and headed home. Tears streaming down her cheeks stung from the bitter wind. Von raced to her room. She didn't like her room because it was dull purple and angel pink. The only reason it was those colours is that her little sister would not agree on a different colour but the biggest reason was that she had to share a room with her little sister Kay.
Von flopped down on her bed and cried and cried. How she wished she could have friends . Right then, Kay walk in and told Von it was time for supper. Von told Kay to tell mother that she was not hungry for supper. when Kay was out of the room Von cried herself to sleep.
In the morning Von was utterly hungry because she did not eat the night before. So she made herself toast with jam, shreddies and snuck herself some marshmallows. Her mother was at work and her dad hade to drop Von's older sister Cassandra of at school so that she would not be late.
Suddenly Von stopped eating as something pulled at her sleeve. Kay's eyes were teary as she looked up. "I dropped mom's new flower seeds in a pot of dirt by accident. "
Von responded by saying "What were you doing out there?! Mom will kill you if she finds out!"
"I was cutting flowers for a bouquet for mom and then I tripped and the seeds flew everywhere." A little pause then quickly added, "Will you help me pick them out?"
"Of course I will help you!" Von giggled. A huge sigh of relief wafted over Kay as the two girls walked into the yard and started picking up seeds. Von pretended a smile but inside she was worried about school. Wondering about who to play with. But Von shouldn't have worried because some one was waiting for her there.
When Von got to school she sat on the bench waiting for the bell to ring. When she sat down in her desk some one new was sitting beside her. The teacher made her way to Von and introduced Von to Ruth and Ruth to Von.
